Static IP Address Configuration Steps
Tier1 or Tier2 Support:
1. Contact ISP to Order/Provision Static IP. Price will vary by ISP.
***DO NOT have the modem loaded with the Static IP until AFTER coordinating with the Community***
2. Contact Community to coordinate network downtime and configure router with static network information. Approximate downtime will be 30 – 45 mins.
Router and Modem configuration needs to be strictly managed to minimize customer downtime.
3. Contact ISP to program/load modem with assigned static IP address information. Ensure modem is configured properly by ISP.
Modem Configuration: Bridge Mode = ON (or pass-through)
Router Configuration: use network information provided by the ISP (i.e. Public usable static IP, Defauly Gateway, Subnet Mask, Pri/Sec DNS Server
4. Contact Community to restart internet equipment, phones and computers. Verify all devices have network connectivity. Perform internet speedtest to verify bandwidth is appropriate.
5. Update / Close TEMS Ticket and update Comm Data with static information.
Potential Issues
1. Modem is NOT compatible with a static (i.e. modem gateway). In this case, the ISP will need to replace modem with a compatible model.
Contact ISP to schedule replacement modem to be installed. Notify the Community to make sure date/time for tech dispatch works for the Community.
2. IP Conflict with Modem and the D-LINK Router. This is resolved by modifying the IP address assigned to the DLINK router.
Remote into the D-LINK interface and change assigned IP address
3. Loss of network connectivity after adding static IP script/configuration to modem. Reset modem, router, phones /PCs to see if they obtain a new IP address and then can access the internet.
Contact ISP to verify the correct static IP information and configuration is accurate and programmed in the modem.
Connect laptop or PC direct to the modem. Disconnect D-LINK router from the modem. Configure PC network settings to use new static IP network settings
Next Steps:
1. Verify what Communities have successfully configured static IP addresses
2. Verify if any Communities are currently without internet service
3. Identify what Communities have experiencing network problems AFTER ordering static IP Addresses
4. Determine next steps and Project Plan
