Switching a Polycom 550 phone from DHCP to a static IP Address.
This can be a useful way to address connectivity issues like URL call is disabled errors.
It may also alleviate some (but not all) call quality issues.
Before You Begin:
- Find out the phone’s password. Click Here to use the MAC password. (Password Needed)
- Next, determine the phone’s current IP address and a static IP address (along with subnet and gateway) to assign to the phone.
To set a static IP on a Polycom 550 phone:
- Press the Menu key.
- Select Settings.
- Select Advanced.
- Type phone Password and press Enter.
- Select Admin Settings.
- Select Network Configuration.
- Select Ethernet Menu.
- Select DHCP Client and use the right arrow key to set it to Disabled.
- Scroll to and select Phone IP Addr.
- Enter intended static IP address.
- Scroll to and enter Subnet.
- Scroll to and enter Gateway.
- Press Exit.
- Scroll down and select DNS Server.
- Enter: 8.8.8.8 then press OK.
- Press Exit.
- Scroll to and select DNS Alt.
- Enter: 8.8.4.4 then press OK.
- Press the left arrow key.
- At Save Config? screen, press Yes.
- Wait for phone to reboot.
